Lincoln Alexander Day Celebration

Monday, January 21 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am

On Lincoln Alexander Day (Jan. 21, 2019), an HWDSB school named in honour of the Hamilton trailblazer will be holding a meaningful assembly touching on racial equity and education. In a life devoted to community, Alexander accomplished many firsts: in 1968 the first black Member of Parliament, the first black cabinet minister and the first black chair of workers compensation. Students at Lincoln Alexander elementary are proud to learn about their schools namesake. The school will hold a short assembly Monday at 9 am to honour the late Lincoln Alexander. A student will present a speech about him. In keeping with his values and ideals about education and anti-racism, students are participating in a "Mission Possible" a project about how this school community can show kindness to each other and make everyone feel like they belong. They will show a video about this initiative during the assembly. The event will also include drumming and speaking by Lincolns granddaughter Erica.
