Message of Condolences: Addressing Tumbler Ridge, BC Tragedy
Dear HWDSB Families and Community,
Today is a somber and heartbreaking day in Canadian history. The news out of Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia is tragic and deeply unsettling. On behalf of HWDSB, we extend our sincere and heartfelt condolences to everyone affected by this devastating loss.
Events like this are not common in Canada, and the news can feel especially shocking and difficult to process. When something so unimaginable occurs, its impact reaches far beyond the immediate community. A community grieves. A nation grieves. And as a school district, we hold all those affected by the tragedy in Tumbler, BC in our thoughts with deep empathy and care.
In times like these, a wide range of emotions can arise – fear, anger, shock and sadness – and whatever you may be feeling is real and valid.
Please know that our staff are here to support students during this difficult time.
For many young people, school is a place where feelings surface, questions arise, or worries become more visible.
If your child appears unsettled or struggling in response to this difficult news, we encourage you to reach out to your school’s administrative team or student support staff. We are committed to maintaining learning environments grounded in compassion, care, and emotional safety.
