
HWDSB Welcomes Matthew Gerard as HWDSB’s Associate Director, Support Services
Matthew Gerard has been appointed to the position of Associate Director, Support Services, for Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB).
Matthew comes to HWDSB from the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) where he served as the Coordinating Superintendent for Business Services and Treasurer of the Board. He has held this position for seven years and prior to that role, Matthew was the Board’s Regional Internal Audit Manager.
“I am excited to join Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board as Associate Director, Support Services,” said Gerard. “As I bring my executive leadership experience to Hamilton, my hometown, I look forward to aligning services and providing financial oversight to advance publicly funded education.”
Throughout his time at WRDSB, Matthew provided strategic leadership in the areas of business and financial services, facilities management, before and after school, transportation services, and audit. He led the modernization of the board’s financial system and delivered an annual balanced budget, which totalled $800 million. Students have been at the centre of his financial and operational decisions.
In a message to staff, Director Sheryl Robinson Petrazzini, shared, “We look forward to Matthew’s expertise in fiscal management, commitment to human rights, student achievement, and well-being. His passion for delivering high-quality educational services will benefit students, families, staff, and communities across HWDSB.”
As Associate Director, Matthew will oversee Business Services, Facilities Management, HW Student Transportation Services, and Instructional & Informational Technology.
“My commitment for the Support Services division is to deliver a high level of service to HWDSB families and staff by removing barriers for students, focusing on learning recovery priorities, and advancing human rights, equity, and inclusion.”
Matthew will start in the role of Associate Director, Support Services effective November 21, 2022.
