Letter to Families on Rosh Hashanah and the First Day of School

Dear Families,

As summer winds down and September approaches, HWDSB teachers and staff are hard at work preparing for a safe and exciting return to in-person and virtual classrooms this school year.

During this exciting time, we recognize another time of importance for families in our Jewish community, Rosh Hashanah.

This year Rosh Hashanah will take place from September 6 to 8. As mentioned in the August 2021 COVID-19 Update for Families, the 2021-22 School Year will begin on September 8. You can read this update here.

Rosh Hashanah is an important High Holy Day for Jewish families, and we recognize that some celebrations may conflict with the first day of school. In recognition of Rosh Hashanah, schools will work to accommodate students, families and staff that are observing. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact your child’s principal for support.

All religions and faiths matter. HWDSB values the religious diversity within our community and is committed to working with families to determine appropriate and reasonable accommodations for students. Read the Parent Guide: Religious and Creed-based Accommodations to learn more here.

On behalf of HWDSB, L’Shanah Tovah and Happy New Year. We hope you enjoy this special time of celebration and introspection with family and friends, and we look forward to welcoming you back in the new school year.

Sincerely,

Manny Figueiredo
Director of Education
