Labour Update – Tentative Deal, No Strike Action

Labour Update to Families

November 20, 2022

Dear Families,

We are pleased to share that a tentative deal has been reached between the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), the Government of Ontario and the Council of Trustees’ Association.

Schools will be OPEN for in-person learning tomorrow, Monday, November 21, 2022. All child care, extra-curricular activities, and rental permits at HWDSB will continue to operate as normal.

Thank you for your patience throughout this time of uncertainty. It has been a difficult situation for students, families, staff and community partners.

As you know, the collective bargaining process is a two-tier process. With CUPE members reaching a tentative agreement at the provincial level and averting further job action, we look forward to working with them to confirm an agreement at the local level.

We will monitor the collective bargaining process at the provincial level for the remaining employee groups at HWDSB, as their contracts expired on August 31.

The HWDSB Labour Updates web page will continue to be updated with relevant information: (https://www.hwdsb.on.ca/about/labour-update/).

Families will receive direct communication should there be a future Labour Update that impacts you.

Sincerely,

Sheryl Robinson Petrazzini

Director of Education
