Know your Rights: Human Rights Information Sessions

In celebration of Human Rights Day 2025, the HWDSB Human Rights Office (HRO) is hosting two virtual information sessions for students and parents/guardians in HWDSB.

The sessions will provide an opportunity to familiarize yourself with your rights and responsibilities in schools. You will learn about:

  • Human Rights as Everyday Essentials
  • The Ontario Human Rights Code and how it applies in upholding students’ rights in schools
  • What the HWDSB Human Rights Office is and how it operates
  • The Board’s Human Right Policy, Complaint Resolution Procedure and reporting
  • What constitutes discrimination and how to report and address human rights concerns in schools
  • System navigation supports for students and families

About the Human Rights Office:

The HRO is HWDSB’s arm’s length office that is mandated to promote and protect the human rights of all HWDSB community members. The office provides strategic advice within HWDSB to support all HWDSB community members in understanding their rights and responsibilities. The office is also responsible to receive, resolve and investigates human rights concerns and complaints to ensure compliance with the Ontario Human Rights Code. Learn more about the HRO here.
