HWDSB Mourns the Death of Trustee Chris Parkinson

Chris and Mobi

Chris loved his Newfoundland dog, Mobi.

It was with shock and deep sadness that we learned of the passing on May 30 of Chris Parkinson, 53, a new Trustee at Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB).

Our hearts go out to his loved ones, especially wife Catherine and son Matthew.

Chris was elected Ward 3 Trustee from a crowded field in 2018 and became known around the Board table for his commitment to youth, mental health and community.

A Scott Park alumnus, Chris was a microbiologist, author and avid volunteer. In May alone, he helped at the Beautiful Alleys event, the Bishop Park clean up, Sew Hungry on Ottawa Street and was a judge in the Hamilton Dream Centre Butter Tart Festival.

Above all else, Chris loved his family, his friends, his community and his Newfoundland dog, Mobi. He held a special place in his heart for Hamilton and Toronto sports teams, dreaming that students at the new Bernie Custis Secondary School could be part of a Grey Cup at Tim Hortons Field.

Chris will be in our hearts as we lower flags at all HWDSB buildings for three days.

We thank Chris for this service to students and community. He will be greatly missed.

Sincerely,

Manny Figueiredo                                                                           Alex Johnstone
