
HWDSB crowns senior tennis champions
The fall championship sport season kicked off on September 21 as HWDSB crowned its senior tennis champions at Rosedale Tennis Club.
Over 85 entries competed for the top crown and the right to represent the HWIAC league at the Southern Ontario Secondary School Association (SOSSA) championship held October 5 in St. Catharines, Ont. The winner in each category is declared the city champion, while the top two advance to SOSSA.

Girls Singles

2nd – Madison Couture and Julia Gooding (Waterdown DHS)
Boys Doubles
1st – Louis DiSalvo and Ethan Goodale (Dundas Valley SS)
2nd – Tanner Mayer and Ross Colborne (Dundas Valley SS)
Mixed Doubles
1st – Maya Emerson and Sam Gower (Ancaster HS)
2nd – Natasha Gondar and John Novakovic (Orchard Park SS)
Boys Ranked Singles
1st – Anthony Gondar (Orchard Park SS)
2nd – Nolan Kool (Westmount SS)
Girls Ranked Singles
1st – Victoria Mac (Ancaster HS)
The HWIAC Junior Tennis Championship will take place next week at Rosedale Tennis Club on Sept. 28. The top two from each category at that event also advance to SOSSA with the Junior SOSSA Championship going October 13 in St. Catharines, Ont.
The provincial championship for tennis which is conducted by OFSAA (Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations) will be contested on May 29-31, 2017 at three different facilities in Toronto and Markham. For more information visit https://ofsaa.on.ca/tennis
