Here’s How International Day of Pink Was Celebrated Across HWDSB
International Day of Pink is an annual event to raise awareness and commit to ending the spread of bullying, hatred, homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, and transmisogyny within our schools and our communities.
Day of Pink is always celebrated on the second Wednesday of April, which is April 14, 2021. Unfortunately, this important day for our Two Spirit and LGBTQIA+ students, families, and staff takes place within the newly created provincial April break. To continue in the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board’s tradition of raising awareness on Day of Pink, we recognized the date on Thursday, April 8, 2021.
We saw plenty of students and staff members celebrating by wearing pink and partaking in lessons rooted in the Day of Pink theme. Here are some of our favourite moments:

Today for #nationaldayofpink we read the book Chrysanthemum and learned a very valuable lesson about the power of our words and the importance of thinking about what we are going to say before we say it!@HWDSB @Viscount_HWDSB #celebratewhatmakesusdifferent pic.twitter.com/7jn3TYyIay

To celebrate International Day of Pink, 5N talked about the different things that make up our identities. In order for us to feel safe and loved, all parts of our identities should be accepted and celebrated. We read the book “Looking Like Me” and created our own poems! @HWDSB pic.twitter.com/udW4GlXRMn
