Anticipated Transit Disruptions – Hamilton Street Railway Service – Potential Labour Action as of October 25
October 25 Update:
We are following up with HWDSB families to let you know that there is no labour action or major disruption to transit service as of Wednesday, October 25.
However, ATU will vote on the City of Hamilton’s final offer on Sunday, November 5. Depending on the outcome, there remains a possibility that city-wide transit services could be impacted.
HWDSB knows any labour action has the potential to disrupt routines, and contingency planning will continue for affected students and schools. We will continue to monitor the evolving situation and communicate any relevant updates to families.
October 24 Message:
Dear HWDSB families,
After midnight on October 25, the Hamilton Street Railway (HSR) operated by the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 107 is in a legal position to strike.
If your child(ren) receives a HSR pass through HWSTS, HWDSB will reach out to your family directly regarding ongoing contingency planning and next steps.
Additionally, we strongly encourage all families and caregivers to explore alternative options for their child(ren) if HSR transit is routinely used to travel to and from school.
If you anticipate the potential labour disruption impacting your child(ren), please reach out to your school’s Principal.
For more information regarding HSR service, please visit the City of Hamilton’s website.
Regards,
Sheryl Robinson Petrazzini
