Anticipated HSR Strike Action and Bus Service Disruption
Dear Families,
In late October, we shared details about potential strike action involving the Hamilton Street Railway (HSR), operated by the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 107.
ATU Local 107 voted on the final offer on Sunday, November 5, with membership rejecting the proposed agreement. The following message from the City of Hamilton shares details about the impact on HSR service beginning Thursday, November 9:
“The City of Hamilton was informed by the ATU Local 107 that its membership has rejected the City’s final offer and that union members will commence strike action on Thursday, November 9. This means transit service will not be operating as of the start of the service day. As a result, the City of Hamilton will begin to implement contingency measures and is encouraging HSR customers to do the same.
At this time, the City anticipates that all conventional transit services will cease operations as of end of day November 8. The strike action by ATU Local 107 does not impact accessible transportation services offered by DARTS.”
We are exploring possible options to support impacted students for the duration of the HSR strike. We will share more information directly with impacted families if transportation support can be organized.
We encourage families to explore available transportation alternatives. Please let your child’s teacher(s) know that they may be absent if the HSR disruption impacts your child’s ability to attend school.
For more information about HSR service, please visit the City of Hamilton’s website.
Thank you,
