We are pleased to share that Westdale Secondary School will reopen on Monday, June 6, 2022. On June 3, Hamilton Police Service (HPS) announced that they made an arrest related to the recent school threat. We are grateful for the HPS support and shared interest in school safety. The school is safe. After several threats against schools, HPS is working closely with local school boards. Police expect to make more arrests in the days ahead. We appreciate the unease some may feel returning to school. There will be an increased police presence in the community next week. Social Work support for students will be available when school reopens. Our priority continues to be a safe school environment for staff and students. Responding to the threats, HWDSB’s Board Chair and Interim Director of Education have shared an open letter with the community. Closure on June 3: The decision to close was made by Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) as a result of new information about a potential threat to school safety. This was done as a precaution and to support our shared commitment to safety.
