HWDSB’s 2026-2027 Budget Process: We Want to Hear from You!
Dear HWDSB Families and Communities,
Thank you for choosing HWDSB. We take that choice seriously. We appreciate the strong connection you build between home and school. As partners in your child’s educational journey, your perspectives help us understand what students need to learn, grow, and feel supported each day.
As we begin our annual 2026-2027 budget process, we want to learn more about what matters most to you. The budget is one of the tools we use to support student learning, and your voice is an important part of shaping it. Your input helps us understand your priorities.
This year there are two opportunities to share your voice and participate in the 2026-2027 budget process:
1. HWDSB Budget Information Night
The Budget Information Night is planned for March 4th at Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the formal presentation begins at 6:15 p.m. Click here to register.
2. Budget Survey – at HWDSB Engage
We welcome your feedback on how HWDSB should prioritize its budget to best support students’ educational journeys. Your input is an important part of our decision-making process and helps guide how we allocate resources while meeting our responsibilities to the Ministry of Education and maintaining fiscal responsibility. When thinking about the perspectives you may share about HWDSB’s budget process, it is helpful to refer to how The Ministry of Education provides school boards with funding through the Core Education Funding Model. This is where HWDSB’s funding comes from, and we must decide how to allocate the funds from the Ministry in ways that meet the needs of students and reflect the priorities in HWDSB’s Board Improvement Plan.
Our goal is to build a budget that is both responsible and responsive and keeps student learning and experiences at the centre.
What we hear from families becomes one of the many important pieces we layer into this work, along with broader considerations, Ministry guidelines, and input. Together, these perspectives help shape a plan that supports students’ learning and development in meaningful ways.
We also want to acknowledge HWDSB’s staff for the ways they create safe, responsive, creative, and dynamic learning environments and experiences for students. Their work, combined with the partnership we share with families, strengthens our school communities and supports every student’s success.
Thank you for taking the time to share your perspective and for continuing to partner with us in your child’s learning.
Warm regards,
Sheryl Robinson Petrazzini
