Student Trustee Election Information Session | January, 7th 2026

Student voice plays an essential role in shaping strong, inclusive, and responsive schools. Each year, Student Trustee Elections provide secondary students with an opportunity to take part in leadership that helps inform decision-making at the board level.
Student Trustees represent the perspectives, ideas, and priorities of students across our schools. They bring student experiences forward, contribute to discussions at Board meetings, and help ensure that decisions reflect the needs and voices of those most directly impacted — students themselves.
At HWDSB, Student Trustees are valued partners in governance. They work alongside Trustees and senior staff, advocating for student well-being, equity, and belonging while gaining valuable leadership experience along the way.
By participating, students learn about representation, advocacy, and collaboration, while helping to shape policies and initiatives that affect their daily school experiences.
For students considering running, the role offers opportunities to:
-
Develop leadership, communication, and advocacy skills
-
Collaborate with students, staff, and Trustees
-
Bring forward student perspectives on key issues
-
Help shape the future of education across the board
