Director’s Message: March Break 2025

Dear HWDSB Students, Families, and Community,

As we approach March Break, I want to take a moment to reflect on the progress we’ve made together this school year. I am proud of all we’ve accomplished. Since the first day of classes in September, we’ve seen academic achievements, personal growth, and a steadfast commitment to each other. Every effort, big or small, has contributed to the success of our students. Together, we’ll continue to create environments where students and staff feel valued, supported, and inspired.

Our core values—dignity, trust, compassion, and joy—have guided us every step of the way. These values are not just words—they are practiced every day in our classrooms, hallways, and communities. Students have faced challenges with resilience and respect for themselves and others, while staff have shown unwavering dedication and care. Families have been vital partners in supporting our shared goals of growth and achievement.

As we head into this much needed break, I encourage everyone to rest, recharge, and reflect. Whether it’s through relaxation, time with loved ones, or pursuing a passion, I hope you’ll make the most of these days off. This time offers a chance to refresh and return on March 17 ready to continue your hard work and embrace new possibilities.

I’d also like to acknowledge that on Saturday, March 8, during the weekend before March Break, we celebrate International Women’s Day, honouring the leadership, contributions, and achievements of women both globally and within our own HWDSB community. A special thank you to the women of HWDSB for sharing their diverse skills, talents, and experiences to strengthen and enrich our system, drive progress, and inspire change.

While some of our staff may be taking time away from work to recharge, others, like our much-appreciated caretakers, will continue to prepare for the return of students and staff on March 17. I want to thank them all for their dedication and effort.

Whether you’re recharging or continuing to work through the break, I hope you find moments of peace and renewal during this quieter period.

We’ve made great strides so far, and I’m confident we’ll continue to achieve even more in the second half of the year. Students, please keep up the momentum, stay focused, and return with renewed energy and determination.

Wishing you all a restful, joyful and enjoyable March Break!

With gratitude,

Sheryl Robinson Petrazzini
