Paul Tut – 2024-2025 End of School Year Update
Dear Ward 13 Families,
As we approach the end of the school year, I want to take a moment to reflect with gratitude on the incredible growth, resilience, and accomplishments of our students, staff, and school communities. I hope this has been a year of meaningful learning, connection, and progress for your child(ren).
Before we head into summer, I’d like to share a few updates and reflections with families across Ward 13.
The final edition of NOW@HWDSB, our Board newsletter for families, will be distributed this week. It includes important updates from HWDSB, as well as helpful information on City of Hamilton programs and summer services available at Hamilton Public Library branches. I encourage you to explore it—there are excellent resources for students and families to enjoy over the summer months.
To keep in touch during the break, consider subscribing to your child’s school website and following HWDSB on Instagram and Facebook. You can find links to all elementary and secondary schools on the HWDSB website.
As part of our Multi-Year Strategic Plan, important facility upgrades are taking place throughout HWDSB. In Ward 13, this includes accessibility improvements and dust collection system upgrades at Dundas Valley Secondary School, and playground paving at Yorkview Elementary. If you have any questions about these or other school projects, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
With summer temperatures on the rise, I want to make sure families know where to access information on heat-related warnings and supports. The City of Hamilton offers resources on staying cool, and you can learn more about how HWDSB will respond to heat incidents in schools on our website.
The final HWDSB Board Meeting of the school year will take place on Monday, June 16. Families are welcome to tune in via our livestream. Routine Board meetings will resume in September.
This summer also brings a change in provincial leadership, with a new Minister of Education now in place. As always, I remain committed to advocating for strong, equitable public education in Ontario and ensuring that our local needs and voices continue to be heard at the provincial level.
The first day of school for the 2025–2026 academic year is Tuesday, September 2. I’ll be in touch again as we kick off the new year, and I look forward to connecting with many of you over the summer.
Wishing all Ward 13 families a safe, restful, and joyful summer break. Thank you for your continued support of public education in our community.
Warm regards,
Trustee Paul Tut
