‘That’s so fetch’: Ancaster High musical theatre students present ‘Mean Girls the Musical’

It has all the classic moments, like the “Burn Book,” trust falls and iconic lines like “that’s so fetch” and “she doesn’t even go here.”

Grade 11 and 12 musical theatre students at Ancaster High School are putting a fresh take on the Tina Fey musical about high school cliques and the pitfalls of bullying.

Based on the 2004 smash hit comedy film, “Mean Girls the Musical” hits the stage at Ancaster High School’s theatre auditorium May 31 to June 2.

It was a winning Wednesday for the Westdale Warriors.

The senior boys squad won the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board soccer championship over Hamilton District Christian High School at Heritage Green Sports Park.

Westdale took the game 2-0.

Dundas’ Yorkview School a top Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser

Organizer Katie Grantham, Will Harper, Sienna Vermeer and Ainslie Strutt at Yorkview Elementary School’s 2023 Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Small but mighty Yorkview Elementary School raised $8,367 for the Heart and Stroke Foundation with its 2023 Jump Rope For Heart event.

That’s more than 200 per cent over the school’s target, and $17 more than last year’s total, all with just 170 students — fewer than the 180 enrolled last year, at the Thursday May 11 event.


Former Ancaster High School teacher Mason Barnes inspired a life of travel for his students

Do you have a former teacher that imbued you with a lifelong calling to learn? A mentor who pushed, prodded and inspired you to see beyond the confines of the classroom walls? A friend who encouraged you, challenged you and even demanded that you look to the stars?

For journalist and former Hamilton high school teacher Karen Cumming, that person was Ancaster High School teacher Mason Barnes.

Cumming, who graduated from Ancaster High School in 1980, took a January trip to Portugal after listening intently to friends about how it had become their favourite holiday destination.
