Created by a Grade 11 Ancaster High Secondary School student, Ryan Nguyen, Tech Hours is an immersive one-day tech event that features a techathon and tech conference. It provides youth with the experience and insight they need to solve the world’s biggest problems with technology.

“I want to give students the opportunity to explore the intersection of technology and business, while learning from experienced leaders and connecting with like-minded peers that want to make a difference in the world,” organizer of Tech Hours, Ryan Nguyen told us. “I believe that it is important to give high school students the guidance and knowledge they need now, so that they can become future leaders in the world!”

Tech Hours is a stepping stone that allows students to ignite their passions for technology and entrepreneurship. This unique opportunity allows students to explore the world of tech, compete against others, meet experts, become an entrepreneur, and network.

“Students can expect to compete in a thrilling tech start-up competition to solve current world problems with technology! Through a structured program, teams will build their very own tech start-up from the group up and pitch it to judges,” said the Grade 11 HWDSB student. “As the event progresses, students will have the opportunity to learn from CEOs, start-up founders, and engineers about emerging technologies.”

At HWDSB, we appreciate the power of technological education. In this fast-paced world, technology lends support to various sectors. Education on technology ensures that students are prepared for the workforce with the skills and awareness needed to be successful.

Ryan shares, “A success that made me really happy was seeing all these bright, passionate students applying for the event! From Hack the North winners, DECA world champions, First Robotics champions, to students recently getting into tech — it was amazing to witness this passionate community forming.”

Prior experience or knowledge of technology, coding, or entrepreneurship is not required to attend. Tech Hours is seeking committed students with interest and curiosity who wish to make a difference in the world.

Congratulations, Ryan, on planning what looks to be a rewarding and enriching event! We have a feeling there will be a few HWDSB students in attendance.
