The ONYX Ball  – The Harlem Renaissance

Please see invitation and student agreement for the Onyx Ball.

LOCATION: GRAND OLYMPIA BANQUET HALL | (660 BARTON ST)

The Harlem Renaissance was a significant intellectual and cultural movement that revitalized African-American music, dance, art, fashion, literature, theater, politics, and scholarship. This revival was concentrated in Harlem, Manhattan, New York throughout the 1920s and 1930s. The movement emerged from a renewed commitment to civil rights alongside the great migration of African-American
workers escaping the oppressive conditions of the Jim Crow South, with Harlem becoming the primary destination for many who migrated north. While the movement was centered in Harlem during the 1920s and 1930s, its influence extended worldwide and remains relevant today. As an esteemed Onyx Ball invitee, you are cordially invited to embrace the vibrancy, passion, and spirit of rebirth and  renewal that characterized the Harlem Renaissance at this evening of celebration.
