Continuing Education is pleased to offer a variety of summer programs to help keep your whole family learning this summer!

As summer inches closer, consider registering for one of HWDSB’s fun summer programs!  With a wide variety of summer programs, students can continue their learning journeys!  From activity-based literacy and math programs, learning another language, taking summer credit courses, preparing for secondary school, there is something for everyone!

Elementary Students

SUMMER NON-CREDIT PROGRAMS
International Languages Elementary Program Students currently in Grades Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8 In-Person

International Languages Elementary classes provide academic instruction in languages other than English and French.  Available languages for Summer 2025: Arabic, Chinese, Korean, Punjabi and Vietnamese.

July 2 to 25, 2025. Monday to Friday, program times vary by location.

Summer Skill Builder Students currently in Grades 6 to 10 In-Person

Enrich and develop literacy and numeracy skills through participation in these fun, free summer activities combined with art, coding or sports-based programming.

Programs are offered in one-week blocks starting July 7 through August 1, 2025 – morning and afternoon programs available.

Summer ESL Literacy Program Students currently in Grades 6 to 12 (ESL Level 3/CO or lower) In-Person

ESL students in grades 6 to 12 are encouraged to join our ESL Literacy Summer program to strengthen their literacy skills this summer.  (Level 3/CO or lower).

Grade 8 Students

SUMMER CREDIT PROGRAMS
Reach Ahead – Civics & Careers Students currently in Grade 8 Online

Continuing Education is offering the Civics and Careers courses to Grade 8 students who are progressing to Grade 9 in the fall. These half-credit courses can be taken individually (9 days) or in combination (18 days). Courses are offered in English or French.

Civics – July 2-14, 2025
Careers – July 15-25, 2025

Reach Ahead – Technological Education Students currently in Grade 8 In-Person

Grade 8 students have the opportunity to earn a Technological Education credit before entering Grade 9.  Three tech courses will be offered this summer.  Construction, Cosmetology and Hospitality & Tourism courses will be offered at various locations across HWDSB.

Summer Learning Strategies Courses Students currently in grades 8 to 12 (with Individual Education Plans) Online or In-Person

Summer Learning Strategies program helps students become stronger, more independent learners. Students will learn how to develop and apply literacy and numeracy skills, personal management skills, and interpersonal and teamwork skills to narrow learning gaps and improve their learning and achievement in school, the workplace, and the community.

High School Headstart Grade 8 Students In-Person

This one-week intensive program is designed for students who would benefit from extra support in literacy (English) or numeracy (math), helping them build essential skills and confidence before starting high school.  With focused instruction, hands-on learning, and proven strategies, students will be better prepared to meet the challenges of Grade 9. Programs will be offered in each HWDSB High School.

Ready, Set, HIGH SCHOOL! Grade 8 Students In-Person

Ready, Set, HIGH SCHOOL! (formerly Grade 9 Orientation) will run in all secondary schools.  All incoming Grade 9 students are encouraged to join and are automatically registered.  No further action required.  Simply watch your parent contact email for details in mid-August.

Summer School Online (Credit Program) Students in Grades 9-12 and Adults Online

A wide variety of full credit courses will be available through Summer School Online. Includes 1-hour of live, online teacher support daily.

Summer Credit Recovery Program  Current HWDSB Students
in Grades 9-12
with a final grade of less than 50% in an available credit recovery course
Online

HWDSB Continuing Education is offering a Credit Recovery opportunity for HWDSB students recommended by their home school. Credit Recovery is available to students who had a final grade of less than 50% during the 2024-2025 or the 2023-2024 school years in a Grade 9 or 10 compulsory course.  Students can recover one or two credits.

Session 1 runs July 2-14, 2025
Session 2 runs July 15-25, 2025

Session 1: June 27, 2025, 11:00 a.m.
Session 2: July 10, 2025, 11:00 a.m.
Ask at you Guidance Office for the Credit Recovery Coordinator – starting June 2.
Summer School Upgrade Program For students who have already earned the credit, and wish to improve their grade Online

Includes 1-hour of live, online teacher support daily.

Summer Co-op Grade 9-12 students In-person

This is a 2-credit program with mandatory in-person class on Thursday in May and June from 6-9 p.m. at Hill Park Learning Centre.  (May 8, 15, 22, 29, June 5 & 12, 2025)

Co-op Placements are in-person daily from July 2-Aug 1, 2025

Focus on Youth Students aged 16-21 as of July 2, 2025 In-person

Focus on Youth is a summer work program for HWDSB students.  Following a successful interview, students who are offered positions within the program are placed with a community-partnered organization for summer employment.

NEW FOR 2025!  Focus on Youth participants will receive 2 Co-op credits.
