Cornerstone Targeted Training Programs

Short-term, targeted training for learners wanting to gain specific skills for employment or increased independence.

  • Must be 19 or older to participate
  • Gain practical skills that can be applied immediately
  • Hone interpersonal skills in a small-group setting
  • Build confidence in your skills and abilities
  • Programs run part-time typically for 2-3 weeks

Courses are FREE and open to individuals who meet the usual LBS requirements:

Food Handler Training and Certification

  • Provides the basic knowledge to identify risk factors associated with foodborne illness and the skills necessary to handle food in a safe manner.
  • Prepares participants to work in a variety of food-related settings, including work and home.
  • Participants have the option to sit the Food Handlers exam (free with course participation) to earn a Food Handler Certificate, an asset to employers and needed in many workplaces.
  • ELL learners must have Canadian Language Benchmark (or equivalent) of at least 5 in reading, writing, speaking and listening.

G1 Driver’s License Test Preparation

  • Provides the practical knowledge to identify traffic signs, rules of the road, and safe driving practices required to successfully write the Ontario Class G1 drivers license test.
  • Participants must be 19yrs + or be out of school.
  • ELL learners must have Canadian Language Benchmark (or equivalent) of at least 5 in speaking and listening.
  • Note: This is not a driver’s education course. There is no in-car training.

Job Ready/Life Ready Soft Skills Training

  • Develop skills that will make you a better employee, coworker and citizen.
  • Includes focus on skills such as: problem solving and critical thinking, team work, communication, goal setting, work ethic, professionalism, empathy, inclusivity, organization and time management, and conflict resolution.
  • ELL learners must have Canadian Language Benchmark (or equivalent) of at least 6 in reading, writing, speaking and listening.

Coming in early 2022!: Computer Basics for Work and Home

  • Build skills and confidence to improve employability or connect with family and friends.
  • Includes focus on skills such as: hardware and operating systems; getting around on a computer; file storage and management; typing; understanding Windows; introduction to Microsoft Word and Excel; Internet; email; video conferencing (such as zoom); online shopping, banking, privacy and security.
  • ELL learners require Canadian Language Benchmark of 5 in speaking, listening, reading and writing (or equivalent).
