Rescheduled Lockdown Drill

Due to a recent scheduling conflict, we’ve rescheduled our upcoming lockdown drill from this Thursday November 18 to Thursday November 25 at 12:30 pm.

Please see below for details.

On Thursday November 25, we will be practicing this semester’s Lockdown drill at 12:30 pm. The term “Lockdown” is used when there is an incident or threat of serious violence or injury within the school. During a Lockdown, everyone in the school will hear an announcement as follows: “This is a Lockdown”.

During this time, staff and students are to remain in their classes or work areas and away from the door until further notice. Anyone who finds themselves outside of a classroom should go to the nearest accessible room, including a washroom, and close the door. While in lockdown all personnel should remain quiet and turn off cell phones (as they may alert the intruder to your presence). As always, students are also expected to follow the directions of their teacher. Standard procedures such as huddling in a corner or pulling students who are in the hallway into the nearest classroom will only be DISCUSSED AND EXPLAINED by teachers in order to comply with current public health guidelines. Students are reminded that in any real emergency or crisis event, priority is on the imminent threat, not enhanced public health measures.

Once again, in an effort to avoid creating any panic or anxiety, Saltfleet High School will be having a lockdown drill in the afternoon, on Thursday November 25 at 12:30 pm. Students are reminded to remain silent and to follow the directions of their teacher. If any students have any concerns they should feel free to share them with a teacher or staff member.

As a reminder, during any secure school procedure, there is the potential that uniformed police will be in the building to inform and support best practices as they relate to the safety of the school community.

While this upcoming drill will align with Public Health Guidelines and we will continue the use of masks and will remain physically distanced, in the event of a real emergency or crisis, public health advice related to COVID-19 may not be achievable based on the response required. In an emergency/crisis event, priority is on the imminent threat, not enhanced public health measures.
