
Welcome back and Semester 2 Expectations
Dear Saltfleet Students and families,
As we look forward to semester two, it is important to emphasize the importance of regular daily attendance and participation in class activities.

Bathrooms
Many students feel unsafe while using the bathrooms when students are collecting and hanging out in the space on breaks, lunch or during instructional time.

Students are not to loiter in the bathrooms at any time, students have received this message repeatedly and consistently since the start of the school year

Bathroom cubicles or stalls are not to be occupied by more than one person at any time and are to be used for their intended purposes only

With teacher permission, students may sign out of class to use the bathroom by signing their name and time of departure and return on the provided document
-
At no time is it permitted to have, hold, carry or use any tobacco, cannabis or vape product or to be in possession of any prohibited items
-
Students are expected to use the bathroom closest to their classroom to reduce lost instructional time and reduce wandering and disruption to classes
Minimize Distractions
It is important that students arrive promptly and minimize distractions from their learning.

Students are to put their personal mobile devices off or on silent and store away during the instructional period

A reduction in social media activity has a significant positive impact on student relationships and behaviour
-
Please fully charge and carry your school provided device (iPAD or laptop) and charging cord to every class
-
A daily review of classroom activities and assignments is recommended, if you need help please connect with your teacher
Lunch
During the lunch period:
-
Students are permitted to be in the cafeteria, atrium, library or outside
-
Hallways are out of bounds during the lunch hour as ½ of the school is in class
-
Students may eat in the cafeteria or leave property during the timeframe
-
NO food is permitted in the atrium
-
If students are on lunch, the atrium bathrooms are available for use
-
Quiet study is available in the Library/Learning Commons
-
Students may work with staff in the spaces they make available during the timeframe
Dismissal
At dismissal, many students load buses to travel home. Others are walking or get picked up by parents.

Students may only board and use their assigned transportation provider
-
Please do not board buses if you are not assigned to the route
-
Students are to begin walking home and must exit the building at dismissal. No supervised spaces are available.

If students are being picked up, they may wait briefly in the atrium until the warmer weather returns
-
All students participating in clubs, sports or music should proceed to their activity’s space
Last Instructional Day is June 18th and Exam Period – JUNE 19, 20, 23 & 24, 2025
Towards the end of the semester, students will write and prepare summative tasks that form up to 30% of their final grade in a course. The examination period for semester 2 begins on June 19th. All students will participate in a culminating task on the examination days that may include activities such as a conference, activity, written exam or performance task. It is expected that students will participate in the summative activities on these assigned days. If students are not present, a mark of 0 may be assigned. Please avoid travel or vacations during this period.
Vaccine Clinic
A reminder that a catch – up vaccine clinic is running at Saltfleet on February 6th, all day.
Sports, Music and Activities
Saltfleet Staff and students are busy in the winter sports seasons. Boys’ basketball, girls’ volleyball, swimming, water polo and hockey are all in progress. Saltfleet is hosting the Boys’ Basketball championships on February 13th. Music performance season is fast approaching and a list of all available clubs is included in this message.
