Registration for High School Headstart opens February 2, 2026.

Registration for High School Headstart closes July 24, 2026 at 11:00 a.m.

The High School Headstart Program is intended to help incoming Grade 9 students transition smoothly into high school with confidence.  Students who completed Grade 8 in June 2026 are welcome to register.

This one-week intensive program, running August 24-28, 2026, is designed for students who would benefit from extra support in Literacy (English) or Numeracy (Math), helping them build essential skills and confidence before starting high school. With focused instruction, hands-on learning, and proven strategies, students will be better prepared to meet the challenges of Grade 9.

Each HWDSB high school will offer combined Literacy (English) and Numeracy (Math) programs the week of August 24-28, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Give your student the opportunity to strengthen their skills and start high school on the right foot!

High School Headstart provides additional advantages!

  • Students can familiarize themselves with the school layout during the quieter summer.
  • Students can meet some teachers and fellow classmates.
  • This experience fosters confidence, reduces anxiety, and sets a positive tone for the upcoming school year.

This is a non-credit program.

This program is different and separate from our Grade 9 Orientation.  CLICK HERE for information about Grade 9 Orientation.
