Course descriptions

Literacy  CLB 1-2 →  CLB 2-3   CLB 3-4 →  CLB 4-5   CLB 5-8

Literacy

Support for basic reading, writing and numeracy. Learners will identify and print letters and numbers as well as read and write short messages. Use computers.

CLB 1- 2

Gain a basic understanding of English. Learn vocabulary. Listen to short conversations.   Write words from memory and read with the support of pictures. Use computers.

CLB 2-3

Build more confidence in using English. Have short conversations. Listen to directions and instructions. Read short messages and advertisements. Write notes and text messages. Use Computers.

CLB 3-4

Increase your ability to communicate in English. Speak more confidently in social conversations.  Listen actively to conversations and commericals. Read short articles. Expand sentences to write a paragraph. Use computers.

CLB 4-5

Become more confident and accurate in English. Express opinions and be part of any conversation. Read personal and commerical meesages along with websites. Give short presentations. Continue writing paragraphs and emails.  Use computers.

CLB 6-8

Continue to expand your English communication skills. Deliver more advanced presentations. Engage in complex conversations. Read formal and informal texts. Plan and write a simple essay. Learn academic and business English. Improve grammar and pronunciation skills. Use computers.


Sessions for 2021-2022

Fall session starts September 9, 2021 to January 28, 2022

Winter session starts January 31, 2022 to June 17, 2022

Students will have an interview with their instructor and receive a progress report at the end of each session.  All students receive a portfolio to collect assessments.  Join us today and continue improving your English!

Fees

  • No fees for permanent residents, refugees, and naturalized Canadian citizens
  • Fees for Visitors to Canada
  • Nominal materials fee each term $15

Eligibility

Students must be 18 years of age or older to register. Childcare and bus tickets are available to eligible LINC students.

Information

All our courses are designed on individual needs. Classes are based on the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB). The CLBs are the standards used in Canada in language learning and teaching. The Benchmarks describe what a person who is learning English can do at in different situations at home, at school and at work. For more information, please see the Canadian Language Benchmarks Can Do Statements. Our courses use Portfolio-Based Language Assessment and language instruction is student-centered and task-based. Language topics will be chosen in collaboration with other students and the teacher to help meet individual student needs.
