Get SET (formerly Literacy and Basic Skills) programs offer individualized learning and targeted skill development for adults seeking to enhance their employability, increase independence, or pursue further education and training.

Academic Upgrading

This program prepares students to earn secondary school credits to support their goals to attend Secondary School.  Student can hone their skills in preparation for Post-Secondary and Apprenticeship or to obtain employment. Skills training include: reading, writing and math skills and applications.

This program is offered at City Learning Centre and Hill Park Learning Centre. 

Essential Skills Upgrading

Instructors provide essential training in reading, writing, real life math skills and basic computer skills to prepare students for employment and independence pathways.  This program typically supports adults ages 21+ who have developmental disabilities or adults with low literacy.

This program is offered at Hill Park Learning Centre.

Cornerstone

This program is targeted at specific training skills for employment and independence and is offered at Hill Park Learning Centre.

ELIGIBILITY

  • 18yrs +
  • Resident of Ontario
  • In need of upgrading skills in reading, writing, or math in order to pursue goals
  • Have sufficient English language skills to participate fully in the Get SET program (CLB recommendations vary by program. See specific program page for further details).
