NEW!

Students graduating in June 2023 will once again require 40 hours of volunteer service. Please note that for the last two years only, the number of hours was reduced to 20.

SUMMARY

The Ministry of Education continues to make it easier for students to accumulate volunteer hours:

  • All students again require 40 hours of volunteer service
  • All students (aged 14 and over) can now claim 10 hours of volunteer service from their part time job!
  • The types of activities we will accept as volunteer service have been expanded

Examples of activities we will now accept as volunteer service include:

  • Activities that take place during the time allotted for the instructional program on a school day (e.g., walking a younger neighbour or sibling to and from school, helping younger siblings with their homework)
  • Activities that include up to 10 hours of paid work, with the requirement to complete a reflection exercise indicating how their work contributed to service for others (e.g., grocery work during the pandemic)
  • Activities that consist of duties normally performed in the home (e.g., students could help an elderly relative with errands, provide after-school care for a sibling)
