Welcome Back!

August 2023

Hello Churchill Community,

Go Bulldogs Go! Welcome back to another year at Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School. I hope that you have enjoyed your summer break, relaxing, unwinding and spending time with family and friends.

While this new school year brings some changes to SWC, the administration team here remains the same. I am very fortunate to be working again alongside two amazing Vice Principals – Ms. Jessie Zsiros and Mr. Peter Sheahan. Please feel free to seek us out if you require support or assistance with any matter. We will do our best to help you. In addition, we know that your success and well-being are directly connected to you becoming a high school graduate. Working with our talented and dedicated staff, we all want you to graduate and have many opportunities!

Students return for the first day of the school year on Wednesday, September 6th. Classes start at 9:00 a.m. Timetables will be available to you on the first day of school in the cafeteria.

All of our Grade 9’s will be back to SWC on August 30th for an orientation and BBQ. This is an exciting opportunity as our students prepare for the start of the school year. A big welcome to the future class of 2027!

The environment we learn in is very important to all of us. It is crucial for all students to feel safe and welcomed. If you come across any issues, please make sure we are made aware so that you are given the best possible chance to succeed in school. Furthermore, the school is under another renovation. The stairwells and washrooms are now completed but the changerooms are currently being upgraded with completion expected in the coming weeks. Please be patient as renovations continue throughout the fall.

Additionally, I am very excited to let you know SWC will continue to be a 1:1 laptop school. Laptops will be distributed to all students to be used as a tool to augment learning/teaching. Laptops will be in the hands of students during the first few weeks of school.

Parents/Guardians/Caregivers are invited to attend our School Council Meetings. We are still working on finalizing our meeting dates and location (in-person or on-line), but you will be notified by e-mail once our first meeting date is set. Dates will also be posted on our school website. We value our partnerships with families and the SWC community. All are welcome!

As the Principal at SWC, I will continue to be one of the biggest cheerleaders of our students and staff. Please feel free to follow me on X (formerly Twitter), @CNicHWDSB or @Churchill_HWDSB, where I will celebrate our successes and showcase to the community, what a great place SWC is!

On behalf of Ms. Zsiros and Mr. Sheahan, we wish you a wonderful start to the school year. Remember that the passion and pride we see within all of you is very infectious. I look forward to seeing everyone and I am committed to continue to make SWC, the most fantastic place to be.
