2023-2024 Wismer Award for High School Coaching Excellence

On Jan. 16, 2025 HWDSB & the Wismer Foundation celebrated the contributions of High School Coaches across the Board.  All HWDSB interschool sports are coached by volunteer Teacher and/or Community members.  The hours committed are countless, the years of service are priceless and the impact of these coaches is immeasurable.  All ten of the nominees clearly exemplified the commitment, character and leadership that John Wismer personified throughout his career. Each is a dedicated, innovative, and outstanding member of the HWDSB and the Hamilton community.

The 2023-2024 Wismer Award for High School Coaching Excellence is Kristina Alderdice of Saltlfeet SS.  Kristina has been a volunteer Teacher Coach for over 25 years, usually coaching multiple sports year round including Field Hockey, Flag Football, Hockey, Badminton, and Track and Field. She is a dedicated teacher, and volunteer to regional and provincial sport associations representing HWDSB at SOSSA and OFSAA.  Colleagues have said “it is amazing to watch how Kristina’s kindness, empathy, concern and competitiveness emerge as she is coaching her athletes”.

Congratulations Dice!

The ten nominees were also recognized, including the four other finalists.  Each with their own story of dedication to their athletes, students and broader communities. Each an invaluable member of HWDSB and HWIAC Athletics, and each deserving of this recognition:
