HOCKEY: Sir Allan MacNab captures division-II boy’s hockey title
HAMILTON (February 19, 2015) – The Sir Allan MacNab Lions claimed the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board Division-II Boys Hockey Championship on Monday edging Sir Winston Churchill 3-1.
It marked the first time that Sir Allan MacNab have captured a boy’s hockey title since the 1988-89 season when they beat Glendale Secondary School 6-4 in the city championship.
McNab’s Eric Stevens notched two points in the win including the game winner which came at 12:16 of the third period in a tightly contested game. Stevens assisted on Colin Gonci’s opening goal in the first period before seeing Sir Winston Churchill respond in the second period with a marker from Connor Pilon.
Goalie Matt Burdett was the games stand out player making numerous saves in the win for the Lions.
Connor McQuhae added the game’s final goal at 5:46 to make the score 3-1 in favour of MacNab.
