Wismer Award for Coaching Excellence

The Wismer award named is named after HWDSB former teacher John Wismer – Wismer taught his students and players, by example, the values of hard work, integrity, good character, and commitment over a 33-year career. This award recognizes coaches who make significant contributions to the growth and continuing development of students and athletes.

All four nominees are exemplary examples of these traits – Kristina Alderdice of Saltfleet SS, Cindy Myers of Westdale SS, Paul Guagliano of Westmount SS, and the 2022-2023 winner is Bob Gardiner of Dundas Valley SS.

Bob has been a coach for over 30 years and coached over 8 different sports! In his retirement, he is still coaching at Dundas Valley SS.  Bob has been, and continues to be a leader in Athletics in his community and across HWDSB – congratulations Bob & Dundas Valley SS!

The number of hours dedicated by each coach is outstanding. But more importantly the quality of those interactions that are rooted in upholding HWDSB new values – compassion, dignity, trust and joy – that are a critical part of our new MYSP, Be You. Be Excellent.

And athletics – much like other extra-curricular pursuits – develops so many fabulous life-long skills and usher our students towards their own definition of what it means for them to Be Excellent. Thank you so much – and congratulations to every deserving nominee.

The 2023-2024 nomination form will be available soon! If you have a coach at your school who is deserving consider nominating them for this award!
