WATERDOWN WINS HWIAC BOYS DIVISION II BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Darius Schmidt scored 25 points to lead Waterdown District High School to a 62-42 victory over Bernie Custis Secondary School in the Boys Division II Senior Basketball Championship at Guido de Bres Catholic High School.

Schmidt, a 6-foot-7 centre, dominated the middle against the smaller Bernie Custis team.  He served notice early on that he could run the floor, shoot from the outside and of course guard the rim.  He teamed up with outstanding guard Quentin Feuerstake to make life terrible for the Bernie Custis team.

Feuerstake made the play of the game in the first quarter when he drove baseline and delivered a perfect no-look back pass to Schmidt for an easy bucket. That put Waterdown up 36-21 and they never looked back.

In the HWIAC Boys Division II Junior Championship, Westmount defeated Guido de Bres Catholic High School 49-35.
