A Look Back: Cross Country (Girls & Boys)

The Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board celebrates the 2019-20 season with a look back at the year that was and honours this year’s most valuable players.

Secondary Cross Country: Dundas Valley earns overall title; Westdale strong at OFSAA

Dundas Valley continued its dominance in cross country, earning their sixth straight overall title at the HWIAC Cross Country Championship held Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at Christie Lake Conservation Area. The Gryphons recorded 50 points to earn the overall title with Westdale finished second. The Warriors were able to secure the girls’ overall title, beating Dundas Valley by two points. (28 to 26) while the Gryphons captured the boys’ overall title (24 points) with Hamilton District Christian and Westdale tying for second with 10 points.

At OFSAA, held in snowy Sudbury on November 2, 2019, Westdale showed the province that their Novice (Grade 9) runners will be a force to be reckoned with in the future as their midget team took the team gold medal in the Novice 4k race with 182 points. Florina Keller anchored the Westdale team with a 12th place finish while teammate Madison Vohle was just behind with 14 points. In the senior women’s (6k race), Westdale’s Sarah Cushnie broke into the top 25, placing 23rd.
