A Look Back: 2019-20 HWIAC Field Hockey

The Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board celebrates the 2019-20 season with a lookback at the year that was and honours this year’s most valuable players.

FIELD HOCKEY: Saltfleet heads to OFSAA

The Saltfleet Storm continued to be a field hockey force in 2019 claiming their third straight city championship and representing HWDSB at the provincial field hockey championships. Finishing with a perfect 5-0 record, the Storm surged through the playoffs collecting 4-0 wins over Nora Frances Henderson in the semifinals and Ancaster in the championship held October 21, 2019 at Sir Winston Churchill. A few days later, Saltfleet was able to capture another SOSSA title and were ranked 8th heading into the OFSAA Championship. The Storm finished round robin play in their pool with a 1-1-1. In quarter final play, Saltfleet were defeated by Pickering High School losing 2-0 to the eventual gold medalists. The Storm’s only losses of the event came against the gold (Pickering) and silver medalists (Bluevale Collegiate Institute – Waterloo)

In the Division-II Championship, Sir Winston Churchill Bulldogs were able to defeat the Westdale Warriors with a solid 1-0 victory on their home field.
