Saltfleet, Westmount claim field hockey titles
HAMILTON (October 18, 2018) – Saltfleet Storm repeated as HWIAC Girls Field Hockey Champions on Thursday downing the Westdale Warriors 6-1 at Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School Field.
Mallory Mackesy potted a hatrick to lead the Storm to its fourth title in five years. Also scoring for Saltfleet were Nasya Palmer, Nicole McDonald and Rachel Rioux.
For the Warriors, Julia Stavnitzky opened the scoring at the sixth minute of the match.
When the seniors on this team were in grade 9, we lost every game.

The two schools are not done with each other as Saltfleet and Westdale will meet in the SOSSA (Southern Ontario Secondary School Association) semifinal set for Wednesday (Oct. 24) morning at Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School facing off at 9:00 am. That winner will advance to the SOSSA Championship at 2:00pm. Both teams are vying for a berth into OFSAA provincial championship held November 1-3 in Burlington, Ont.
In the Division-II championship, Westmount earned a 2-1 victory in overtime besting Sir Winston Churchill on their home field. Jillian O’Connell netted the game winner in the third minute of overtime. Clare Johnston had the other goal for Westmount.
