SOCCER-G: Ancaster edges Waterdown for girls division-I title
HAMILTON (May 28, 2018) – The Ancaster Royals collected their fourth overall HWIAC girls soccer championship on Monday edging the Waterdown Warriors 2-1 at Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School.
Chloe Mihailovich opened the scoring for the Royals in the fifth minute to put Ancaster an early 1-0 advantage. That lead evaporated quite quickly with Waterdown tying the game on a goal by Warriors Versailla Kahnamori just a minute later.
The game stayed tied all the way until the 77th minute when Victoria Renton knocked in a goal on a scramble in front of the net which was the championship goal for the Royals
Ancaster now advances to the Southern Ontario Secondary School Association (SOSSA) championship hosted later this week at Heritage Green Sports Park.
On Tuesday, Waterdown and Westdale will play a challenge game for the right to represent Hamilton at the “AAA” SOSSA championship. Check www.hwdsb.on.ca/athletics for full details.
