Guido de Bres, Ancaster earn boys volleyball championship titles.

ANCASTER, Ont. (November 11, 2016) – Guido de Bres Christian High School captured their first ever Hamilton public secondary school senior boys volleyball championship on Friday knocking off the Waterdown Warriors 3-1.

Set scores for the game were 22-25, 25-13, 25-13 and 25-23.

Guido lost the opening set, but raced back to capture the next two sets to hold a distinct 2-1 advantage. In the fourth set, Waterdown would go on to build a 18-13 lead but would let Guido climb back into the game and eventually letting the earn the championship with a 25-23 fourth set win.

Guido now advances to SOSSA (Southern Ontario Secondary School Association) “A” championship held next week. For Waterdown, their season is not yet over with a challenge match set for next Tuesday at 2:00pm against Ancaster High School. That game will determine the Hamilton public representative for SOSSA at the “AAA” level.

In the junior championship, the Ancaster Royals claimed their fifth junior boys volleyball title sweeping the Sherwood Saints 3-0. Ancaster won the match on set scores of 25-22, 25-7 and 27-25.

The win marks Ancaster’s first championship title since 2004-05.

The Royals now advance to SOSSA Junior “AA” championship contested at Sir Winston Churchill in St. Catherines, Ont on Tuesday, November 22nd. Guido de Bres also will represent Hamilton at SOSSA playing in the junior boys “A” championship. That event also goes on November 22 at Cayuga High School in Cayuga, Ont.

This year’s HWIAC boys volleyball championship was hosted at Ancaster High School.
