Featured Athlete of the Week – Danielle Datzkiw – Westmount

Danielle is a grade 12 Westmount Wildcat athlete, honours student and club soccer player who deserves this honour. Danielle has participated in multiple sports throughout her four years of high school. She has achieved the Gold Pin Award, which is the highest honour for receiving the most athletic points by any Westmount athlete. Each year she plays Basketball, Volleyball, Touch Football, Tennis, Cricket, Badminton, Water Polo, Track and Indoor and Varsity Soccer. She loves to be active and part of a team environment. She has made great friendships and truly feels a sense of belonging to her school community. Danielle was the Junior Athlete of the Year back in grade ten and has received MVP or Coaches Awards for multiple sports. She is an extremely talented, and hard working leader.

In addition to her athletic success, Danielle is an excellent student and has achieved honours each year. She has been on student council for twWMT_Femaleo years and has been a member of Westmount Athletic Council for four years. She has taken the Sport Academy/Advanced Fitness program each year and attributes much of her success to this program and the positive effect it has had on her self-confidence and self-worth. She can’t imagine high school without an active component to her day.

Lastly, Danielle excels at and loves soccer. In addition to playing for Westmount she plays at the club level and has been since the age of three. She is a fierce competitor on the soccer pitch. Although she has played so many sports, soccer is her passion and she hopes to play it for the rest of her life. She aspires to attend Mohawk College for the Health Wellness and Fitness course then possibly attend Guelph University for Kinesiology. Although she is not exactly sure what she wants to be in the future, teaching is a possibility. We wish our Wildcat, Danielle all the best and thank her for her contribution to the Westmount community.
