OFSAA Update (Day 1)

A recap of HWDSB/HWIAC teams competing for winter provincial championships at OFSAA. Championships are being held across the province from March 7-9, 2016.


Boys Basketball (AAA):
Sir Allan MacNab SS (March 7-9 @ Windsor, Ont.)

Sir Allan MacNab lost their opening match of the boys basketball “AAA” championship tournament narrowly losing 69-64 to No. 7 seed Sir John A. Macdonald of Waterloo. Nicolas Ciaglia was the Lions top scorer posting 13 points in the game. On Tuesday, MacNab will contend against St. Michael’s College (Toronto) who are ranked as the 4th seed in the event. Girls Volleyball (AAA):
Westdale SS (March 7-9 @ North Bay, Ont.)

Westdale holds a 1-1 record after their first two games of pool play. The Warriors lost their opening match 2-0 (6-25, 13-25 to Unionville’s Bill Crothers but rebounded with a 2-0 (25-22, 25-16) win against St. Francis Xavier (Mississauga). Westdale has two more games in pool play with the Warriors facing off against Lockerby (Sudbury) at 8:30am and Holy Names (Windsor) at 11:30am. Girls Volleyball (AA):
Sir Winston Churchill SS (March 7-9 @ Kenora, Ont.)

Sir Winston Churchill is winless after its two first games of pool play with the Bulldogs dropping their opening match to CC Samuel Genest 2-0 (10-25, 14-25). In their afternoon match, Sir Winston Churchill lost to Dryden High School 2-0 (11-25, 9-25). Round Robin play wraps tomorrow with the Bulldogs set to play L’Amoreaux Collegiate (Toronto) at 8:30am and then École Secondaire Catholique de Casselman (Casselman) at 11:30am. Girls Volleyball (A):
Hamilton DCH (March 7-9 @ Kitchener, Ont.)

Hamilton District Christian High holds a 2-1 record after three games of pool play complete in the opening day of the event. The Knights earned a 2-0 (25-17, 25-16) victory over Maranatha Christian Academy (Windsor) to open the competition followed by a tough 2-1 (22-25, 25-20, 11-15) loss to Monsigneur-Bruyere (London). In their late afternoon match Hamilton District rebounded in a big way dropping No. 3 seed Woodland Christian (Breslau, Ont.) 2-1 (18-25, 26-24, 15-9). The Knights conclude their pool play at 1:30 tomorrow battling Almaguin Highlands (South River, Ont).
