Featured Athlete of the Week – Amy Thomson – Sir Allan MacNab

Amy Thomson is an exemplary student athlete at Sir Allan MacNab. Her positive attitude, commitment to personal fitness and coachability make her a leader at our school, on and off the field. We were delighted when Amy joined SAM after the closure of Hill Park. She is always willing to work hard, learn new skills, and she encourages her teammates to push themselves as well.

Now a senior, Amy is best-known for her accomplishments as a power lifter. In Grade 10 she was both regional and provincial champion and repeated again as regional champion in Grade 11. In addition, Amy qualified for Junior and Sub-junior Canadian Championships, where she camAmy Thomsone first in her weight class and broke the Women’s 84 kg class National record for bench press.  Amy has been training hard to compete in the upcoming regional high school meet in April, where she will no doubt be a front runner.

Amy’s impressive athletic abilities are reflected in her performances in both court and field sports, making her a valuable member of the basketball, volleyball and touch football teams. What is more notable is her kind and humble character, which reflects her sense of good sportsmanship and team mentality. Amy’s coaches are always impressed by her determination as an athlete and as a student ambassador. She manages to achieve high standards academically, while training hard to pursue her goals.

After graduation, Amy plans on attending McMaster University where she hopes to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse practitioner. We wish Amy all the best in her future endeavours. Her positive attitude and contagious smile will certainly be missed around MacNab.
