BASKETBALL: Sir Allan MacNab reigns at boy’s basketball championship

2015-16 Boys Basketball Champions

HAMILTON (February 22, 2016) – The Sir Allan MacNab Lions captured the HWIAC Senior Boys Division-I Championship knocking off the Saltfleet Storm with a convincing 75-53 victory at McMaster University on Monday.

The tale of the game was Sir Allan MacNab’s explosion for 30 points in the fourth quarter. That offensive punch overwhelmed Saltfleet who had held a narrow 47-45 lead heading into the final frame

MacNab’s Sam Jenkins led the way pouring in a game high 20 points to secure the win. Teammates Kenaughn Ellis and Isaiah Bujdoso contributed 13 and 12 points respectively.

Saltfleet had a trio of double digit scorers with Jahmal Burke, Kingsley Campbell Olsen and Ihsan Khan each recording 10.

The victory marked the second time in three seasons that Sir Allan MacNab has earned the senior boys division-I championship; in fact it was the third straight season the Lions had faced off against the Storm in the city championship.

Sir Allan MacNab advances to Southern Ontario Secondary School (SOSSA) senior boys ‘AAA’ championship slated for Wednesday, February 25 at Notre Dame College in Welland, Ont.

Earlier, in the junior boys division-I final, MacNab grabbed its sixth straight title knocking off Saltfleet 52-37. Scott Jenkins was the game’s top scorer pouring in 27 points in the championship game to lead the Lions to victory.

Saltfleet’s top scorer was Trevor Braten who tallied 10 points while Daniel DiSabatino had nine in the loss.

Both Sir Allan MacNab and Saltfleet will advance to SOSSA junior ‘AA’ championship on Wednesday which is hosted by Glendale Secondary in Hamilton.

In Division-II play, Dundas Valley notched a convincing 76-54 win over Westmount to claim the senior title. Dundas Valley was led by Connor Goodes who dropped 22 points in the win while Michael Sober and Marshall Petrie-Hillsley added 13 each. Gurnoor Sidhu tallied a team high 15 points for Westmount in the loss.

Hamilton District Christian captured the junior division-II title topping Nora Frances Henderson 42-25. Knights’ Isaiah Husiman scored 19 points while teammate Jessie Baker added another seven in the win. Henderson’s high scorer was Coby Trutman who broke double digits with 11 points.
