SOCCER-G: Sherwood takes Division-II title
HAMILTON (May 26, 2015) – The Sherwood Saints captured the Hamilton public secondary school Division-II Girls Soccer title on Monday edging Sir Winston Churchill 3-2 in penalty kicks. The two teams had finished regulation and overtime tied 2-2.
The win marked the second time the Saints have earned the Division-II crown and their sixth girls’ soccer title in school history.
Sir Winston Churchill held a 2-1 lead late in the second half before Sherwood’s Alannah Yates scored her second goal of the game to tie the game.
Sherwood edged Churchill 4-3 kicks, with Mikayla Altenburg netting the decisive goal.
The championship was the icing on the cake for Sherwood as it finished with a perfect 6-0 regular season record and then picked up another two wins in the playoffs to finish with an overall 8-0 record.
