OFSSA bound: A look at HWDSB and HWIAC teams competing in provincial championships (Mar 9-11)
HAMILTON (March 6, 2015) – Several student-athletes are in search of provincial glory from March 9-11 as teams from across Hamilton will aim to bring back OFSSA (Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations) championship titles to the region. Here is a break down of teams from representing Hamilton Wentworth District School Board and the Hamilton-Wentworth Inter-scholastic Athletic Council (HWIAC)
Boys Basketball (AAAA)
Sir Allan MacNab heads to Windsor in search of the AAAA boys basketball title. The Lions are seeded 11th and will play No. 1 seeded St. Mike’s (Toronto) in the opening game set for Monday (Mar. 9) morning at 9:30am. Competition will run until Wednesday (Mar 11). [Tournament Website]
Boys Basketball (AAA)
Saltfleet, will also travel to Windsor looking to defend last year’s OFSSA AAA championship title. The Storm are ranked as the No. 2 seed heading into the event and will battle Kingston’s Frotenac SS in their opening game at 12:00pm on Monday. [Tournament Website]
Boys Basketball (A)
Hamilton DCH will represent HWIAC in the single-A basketball tournament which will be played in Chatham, Ont. [Tournament Website]
Girls Hockey (AAA/AAAA)
Saltfleet and Waterdown will both challenge AAA/AAAA girls hockey championship set for the nations capital in Ottawa. Saltfleet is the 2014 defending champion and takes an 8-0-2 record into the championship and is ranked fifth. Waterdown enters the event as the second entry from SOSSA and is seeded No. 20. Waterdown kicks off play at 8:00 am on Monday while Saltfleet’s begins their quest at 9:30am. [Tournament Website]
Volleyball (AAAA)
Westdale will contest for the girls AAAA volleyball crown in Windsor. Westdale will begin it’s journey on Monday with seedings and exact game times yet to be announced. [Tournament Website]
Volleyball (A)
Hamilton DCH will represent SOSSA and will host the event next week. Monday and Tuesday will see qualifying rounds while Wednesday will feature the semifinal and championship rounds. [Tournament Website]
