OFSAA Winter Round Up

Here’s a breakdown of how HWDSB / HWIAC teams fared at OFSAA  winter provincial championships this week.

WRESTLING: Bronze for OP’s Bachiu
Orchard Park’s Halle Bachiu represented HWDSB at OFSAA Wrestling earning a bronze medal in the 41kg weight class.   The event was held in Brampton, Ontario from March 1 – 3, 2017.

 

BASKETBALL: Saltfleet bows out in quarterfinals against No. 1 seed
Saltfleet earned a quarterfinal berth at the OFSAA ‘AAA’ Boys Basketball Championship in North Bay, Ont. The Storm toppled No. 14 Holy Cross (Kingston, Ont.) 64-41 in their opening game with Cameron McVeety leading the way with 18 points.  From there, No. 8 Saltfleet knocked off No. 9 St. John Paul II (Toronto) 80-71 to advance to the quarterfinals. Top scorers in that game were Terry Hill with 28, Andrew Bartlett with 25 and James Agyapong with 13.  Up against the top seeded St. Benedict’s (Cambridge), in the quarterfinal match, Saltfleet lost 59-45 to see their OFSAA dream voided.  Ricky Morrison posted 11 points in the loss followed by Hill with nine and Agyapong with seven.

 

VOLLEYBALL: HDCH makes quarterfinal
The Hamilton District Christian Knights posted a 3-1 record in round-robin play to earn a quarterfinal berth at the OFSAA ‘A’ Girls Volleyball Championship in Welland, Ont.  The Knights took victories against Blenheim District HS (2-0) from Drumbo, Ont.,  as well as Carleton Place High School (2-0) and Lady of Lake CCS (2-0) in York Region.  In the quarterfinals, HDCH came up against St. Mary’s DCVI (from St. Mary’s, Ont.) losing 3-1 (21-25, 25-20, 26-24, 25-19).

 

VOLLEYBALL: Westdale edges Bishop Allen in Pool Play
The Westdale Warriors edged Bishop Allen from Toronto 2-1 in OFSAA ‘AAA’ Girls Volleyball Championship.  Set scores from that game were 10-25, 25-15, 15-12.  The Warriors closed pool play with a 1-3 record.
