Featured Athlete of the Week – Lucas Vendervelde – Guido de Bres

Lucas Vandervelde is a senior badminton player who has dedicated himself to his sport for 4 years at Guido de Bres Christian High School.   He has stayed enthusiastic, and is constantly looking to improve his game.  He would even go as far as to mentor younger players and assist with coaching whenever possible.  His coaches were very impressed with his commitment to the team and to his development.  He did so in an unassuming, “low key” sort of way.   Because of these character traits he often played doubles and though he didn’t always achieve the level of success that he could have with his individual ability, he maintained a positive attitude and composure.  One of his coaches stated “he found satisfaction in individual shots/plays, as larger victories were not always attainable.”   He would love to continue on in this sport beyond High School.   His basketball coach was also very impressed with Lucas as an athlete but also his overall character – “I could push him hard and he was always up for the challenge.”   We are all very proud of Lucas as a student athlete.  He exemplified commitment, hard work and team spirit and he did so in a humble way. Great work Lucas!
