Featured Athlete of the Week – Lindsay Wilcox – Waterdown

Inspiration to Waterdown – Lindsay Wilcox

Involved in baseball and volleyball, Lindsay Wilcox is one of Waterdown’s best all around athletes and team players.

Wilcox inspired Waterdown by being the only girl on Waterdown’s 2015 baseball team, and she absolutely conquered the field. “She was an amazing infielder. She didn’t make any errors, and she constantly made plays when we needed them,” said Terry Bishop, head coach of the WDHS baseball team.

Not only was Wilcox a team member on the baseball team, but also the volleyball team. Wilcox played as WDHS’s Libero, the defence captain. “She is fabulous. She is good at reading the plays and moving into position,” said Michelle Visca, Waterdown’s principal and head volleyball coach.

When asked to describe one of her most memorable moments as an athlete, Wilcox commented, “One of my proudest moments as an athlete was winning the game point in last years volleyball tier 2 division 1 provincials.”

However, her moments of success come with obstacles to face as well. The life of an athlete provides constant challenges that Wilcox overcLindsay Wilcoxomes with hard work and determination. “Some major obstacles I’ve faced are spraining my ankle in my first baseball nationals with Team Ontario, and getting a minor concussion twice in baseball,” described Wilcox.

In addition her natural athletic ability, Wilcox is set apart from other athletes by her positivity and determination. “Lindsay is positive, has an upbeat nature, and is always willing to do whatever for the team,” stated Visca.

Wilcox has been playing baseball since she was four years old and was introduced to the sport by her parents who grew up playing it. “I couldn’t imagine myself not playing it,” said Wilcox. Wilcox was introduced to volleyball in elementary school by joining the junior volleyball team.

Along with maintaining a high standard of education through her studies, Wilcox continues to balance her everyday life with that of a dedicated athlete. She has created many personal connections through her activities and she stated, “I have gained many friendly relationships with all of the teammates I’ve had especially with my rep volleyball and baseball/softball teams.”

Already on the path to a bright future, Wilcox has her aspirations and life goals planned with regards to both her sports; Wilcox explained, “My future aspiration for volleyball is to play for Fanshawe College. And my dream for baseball is to one day play for the Women’s National Team.”

Her personal attributes along with natural athletic ability make her one of Watertown’s most celebrated and renowned athletes. Students, teachers, and coaches alike can all agree Wilcox has a bright and promising future!
