Football: Westdale rolls to Division-I championship while Ancaster claims Division-II

2015-16 SR Boys Football - Westdale SSHAMILTON (November 11, 2015) – The Westdale Warriors and the Ancaster Royals walked away as champions on Wednesday locking up the Division-I and Division-II Hamilton public secondary school football championships held at McMaster University.

In the Division-I championship, it was all Westdale as the Warriors spoiled Sir Allan MacNab’s attempt at a perfect season.  The Lions went into the game sporting a perfect 6-0 record having previously beat Westdale 22-15 in the regular season.

Westdale’s Eliot Graham, Mitch Garland, Kyle Green and Aksum Polk all punched in touchdowns on the ground for the Warriors.  Adam Samek kicked four converts on the touchdowns.   Green rushed for a game high 116-yards on just seven carries in the win.

Westdale will now play the winner of SOSSA Zone 2, McKinnon Park or Delhi, in the SOSSA-West OFSAA Qualifier on Monday November 23rd at Ron Joyce Stadium kicking off at 12:30 p.m.  The winner of that game advances to the OFSAA. Northern Bowl against the NWOSSA (Thunder Bay) champion on Wednesday December 2nd at Tim Horton’s Field with a 10:30 a.m. kickoff.

2015-16 SR Boys Football D2- AncasterHSIn the Division-II championship, the Ancaster Royals knocked off the Orchard Park Patriots 28-16 exploding for 20 unanswered points in the second half to secure the victory.  

Ancaster’s Lucas Ojero was the game’s top player rushing for 63 yards and adding another 189 yards receiving scoring one touchdown on a 64-yard bomb from quarterback Omer Pinthus.  

That 64-yard touchdown was the game’s deciding touchdown putting the Royals up 21-16 at the time.

Orchard Park’s Austin Krasulja was the game’s top rusher notching 138 yards on the ground.  He also scored a touchdown on a 66 yard pass from Patriot quarterback Brian Verrier.
