What are Final Evaluations?

Growing Success: Assessment, Evaluation and Reporting in Ontario Schools, 2010, provides that 30% of the final grade for secondary courses is based on a final evaluation administered at or towards the end of a course. Final evaluations are based on evidence from one or a combination of the following: an examination, a performance, culminating activity or task, an essay, and/or another method of evaluation suitable to the course content.

Final Evaluation Day Expectations:

All students will participate in evaluation activities during the final evaluation days for a minimum of 75 minutes / course (9am to 10:15am – minimum).

Upon completion of their final evaluation, students may return home. Students who are awaiting transportation or would like an area for quiet study may access the Cafeteria before/after their evaluation, during school hours (8am to 2:30pm).

Absence Procedure for Final Evaluations:

Should a student not be able to attend an evaluation (e.g., illness), the parent/guardian is to contact the main office prior to their evaluation to excuse their absence. The classroom teacher will work with the student / family to support a follow up plan (e.g., complete the missed evaluation on the Make Up Evaluation / Student Success Day).

At Westdale, we have a variety of supports available to help students achieve their best. Please contact the classroom teacher or other staff should you have any questions or if you need support for your student.
