Preparations Underway for Sherwood Transition

Plans have begun to move ahead since Trustees have endorsed a plan for Sherwood’s future.

The temporary move to the former Barton site (75 Palmer Road) will occur over the summer with preparation planning and work at the Barton site now underway.

Recent developments include:

  • HWDSB has retained an Environmental Consultant, who has completed their on-site analysis in preparation for a survey of all known regulated substances, such as asbestos.
  • A Request for Prequalification (RFPQ) has been issued to create a prequalified list of demolition and asbestos abatement contractors, who will receive the Request for Tender for the abatement and demolition in future.
  • A Request for Proposal (RFP) has been issued for the architect for the revitalization project, who will work HWDSB through the design and approvals process and prepare tender documents for construction.

Sherwood will receive substantial revitalization work while students are at the former Barton site. Asbestos abatement that can only be done while students and staff are off site has delayed renewal and secondary facility benchmark work at Sherwood.

A transition committee – with students, families, staff and other stakeholders – is being formed to advise the superintendent and administrators, and ensure the transition is as smooth as possible. The committee plans to start meeting next week.
