Student Timetables and Bell Schedule

Dear Sherwood Students/Families,

Please check your HWDSB email address this week for your 2021/2022 student timetable. This timetable will only show your Quadmester 1 courses. Once Parent Portal is live again, you will be able to see your entire schedule for the school year.

While much is unknown still about the daily school operations and COVID protocols (more information to come when we have it), we can share that based on the most recent Ministry announcement, we will be operating in a face-to face “Quadmester” Model. This means that students will attend school for the full day (8am to 2:30pm) and focus on 2 classes at a time: Periods 1 & 2 from Sept. 8th to Nov. 12th and Periods 3/4 & 5 from Nov. 15th to Feb. 1st. In the first Quadmester for example, our students’ day will be as follows:

Quadmester 1

Sept. 8 – Nov. 12 (47 days)

Period 1

Starts at 8am

(150 mins)

lunch

Starts at 10:30am

(75 mins)

Period 2

Starts at 11:45am

(150 mins)

Please note that our self-contained classes will run on our regular 75mins 5-period day bell schedule. Their school start and end times are consistent with the rest of the school: 8am-2:30pm.

FROM THE GUIDANCE OFFICE:
Guidance Appointments
Appointments will be virtual through MS Teams or by phone until further notice. There is minimal space in courses, so appointments will be booked ONLY for students who:

  • Have a SEEGUI code in their timetable
  • New student registration
  • Attended summer school so need to change courses based on summer school achievement
  • Are lacking a prerequisite for a course in their current timetable
  • Are requesting a change to eLearning courses (Students will be put on waitlists as most eLearning classes are full)
  • Are changing pathways (eg Academic to Applied)
  • Require post-secondary prerequisite changes in senior courses

Unfortunately, optional course changes cannot be considered at this time.

Students requiring an appointment will be able to book through the Hub using the Book Appt app in the Nav Bar of a class page.

Questions for Guidance counselors can be directed to their email.  Counselors are assigned by student last name.

GRADE 9 VIRTUAL ORIENTATION
The Grade 9 Orientation Program will focus on helping to ease the transition from elementary to secondary school. The orientation will include literacy and numeracy activities, community building activities, tips for managing time, an introduction to the secondary Hub, understanding the quadmester schedule and a (virtual) tour of the school. Students will have the opportunity to get to know other students in their group, learn about various supports they can access at Sherwood and ask any questions they might have.
This year, the Grade 9 Orientation Program for Sherwood students will be held virtually through MS Teams on both August 23 and August 24th from 9am to 12pm. Students will be automatically registered in this program and should be receiving information through email shortly. All students are recommended to attend.

FROM THE LEARNING RESOURCE DEPARTMENT:
For grade 9 students who have an IEP (Individual Education Plan), your Learning Resource teachers will be reaching out to connect with you within the first few weeks of school. Students who have any urgent questions regarding their IEP should send an email to Ms. McKague ([email protected]) and Ms. Martin ([email protected]).
